2015 Foundation Annual Banquet

Niceville, FL – The Northwest Florida State College Foundation held its Annual Banquet on Friday, August 21, 2015, to thank out-going directors, install new Foundation directors/officers, and recognize friends of the College who help to fulfill the Foundation’s mission of improving lives at NWF State College. Special highlights included two student scholar speakers, Chris Bennett and Hayley Woods, who thanked donors for helping them achieve their academic goals. Special recognitions included the 2015 Alumni Award winners: Ms. Elvira Chiccarelli - Rising Star Award; Dr. David Lambert - the Against the Odds Award; and Dr. Sam McCall - Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Lambert and Dr. McCall were both present and spoke to the audience – each noting that NWF State College gave them a successful start in their academic careers.
Past Foundation Chair, Dewayne Youngblood, was recognized for his five years of service to the Foundation board where he served as treasurer, vice chair, and a 16-month term as chair. He then recognized the Foundation’s four outgoing board members: Don Howard, former Okaloosa County Clerk of Court; Jan McDonald of Ft. Walton Machining; Lamar Conerly of Bowman, Conerly & Dykes; and Lori Kelley of Warren Averett. “These four individuals provided more than 35 years of combined service to the Foundation Board. Their commitment, passion, and leadership have been invaluable,” said Youngblood.
In presenting the final award of the evening, the Chairman’s Award, Youngblood noted, “As my tenure comes to a close, I am reminded that the Foundation’s success this past year is the direct result of community members and volunteers. I am always amazed at the way in which others step up to give their time, energy and commitment. The Chairman’s award is given to a Foundation Board member who has led by example and whose efforts have positively enhanced the organization.” Youngblood presented the Chairman’s Award to outgoing board member Lamar Conerly for his years of support and leadership to the Foundation.

In the most recent fiscal year, the Foundation provided more than $1,089,600 in support to the college and $440,000 in scholarships to students. The Foundation’s net assets were reported at $47,912,196 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015, up nearly 35 percent in the past 5 years. These achievements reflect the strength of the Foundation and the generous supporters who believe in the life-changing power of higher education.
