2019 Hometown Hero Award Recipient
Charlie Marello is a longtime resident of Niceville, Florida, and a graduate of Niceville High School, Northwest Florida State College, and the University of West Florida. During his time at NWFSC, Charlie was the first person to sign a baseball scholarship after the sports programs returned to the College and played for two years. He served his first 15 years in education in the Walton County School District. In 2013, Charlie joined the Okaloosa County School District and accepted the principal position at Destin Middle School. After just three years at Destin Middle School, he had the opportunity to return to his Alma Mater, Niceville High School. During his tenure as principal, every school has achieved an A+ School of Excellence designation by the Florida Department of Education.
