Medicine has been a common thread throughout Irene and Howard Fisher’s life.  Dr. Howard Fisher earned his dental degree from Loyola University-Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1965.  He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York in 1970.  Following his residency, he served in the US Air Force in active duty from 1970-1976 and in the Air Force reserves from 1977-1998 and has maintained a private practice in Fort Walton Beach since 1976.

Irene earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Seton Hall University, New Jersey in 1962 and began her career at Jersey City Medical Center, where she met Howard.  When the couple moved to northwest Florida she began working at Sacred Heart Hospital.  She moved to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in its first days and remained there until her retirement in 2005.

The Fishers know first-hand about the transformational power of education.  It is their sincere hope that the Howard and Irene Fisher Scholarship Endowment will provide a bright future to motivated NWF State College nursing students for years to come.
