In December 2021, the Estate Planning Council of the Emerald Coast, Inc (EPCEC) presented a $1,500 gift to Northwest Florida State College for students majoring in accounting, finance, or pre-law. The EPCEC has chosen to name this scholarship in memory of Kevin Helmich who, until his untimely death, was an active member and past president of the organization. Kevin practiced law in Destin, Florida for more than 20 years and became a partner at Beggs & Lane, Attorneys and Counsellors at Law in 2016. Kevin was a well-regarded estate planner, a trusted adviser to his clients, and a mentor to others in his firm. Awards will be made at the rate of $1,500 per scholarship per year, and renewable for one additional year, at $1,500, provided funds are available.
